Conservation Futures -- the Basics

Spokane County is rich in natural resources including tremendous forests, mountains, lakes, rivers and wildlife habitats. Thirty- six years ago (1966) the county made significant efforts to preserve natural areas, starting with the purchase of the Miller Ranch at Liberty Lake (now Liberty Lake Park). This was made possible by the Federal land and Water Conservation funds used to purchase the majority of park land after WW II. The source of this money is from oil and gas leases on Federal lands.
